GLP-1, GIP, glucagon — peptides that act on metabolism

The peptides in this group are among the most intensively studied compounds affecting metabolism. They mimic the action of gut hormones and activate “switches” (receptors) in the body called GLP-1, GIP and glucagon. A receptor is the site a hormone activates to produce an effect — releasing insulin, say, or reducing appetite.
